Ignatius says, "rather excellent".
Here is another pleasant surprise from the past few weeks. Coltrane Motion is a 2-man project from Chicago consisting of Michael Bond, who provides vocals, samples, and synth, and Matt Dennewitz who provides a heavy layer of crunchy guitar. Hello Ambition is their second full-length record, and it's a really solid release. Although the record is certainly informed by electro-pop and dance , the sound and feel of this record is buttressed by the melodic indie-guitar-rock of Yo La Tengo, flavored with a sprinkling of shoegazer, and a topped-off with a dollop of nasally Alex Ownsworth-like (Clap Your Hands) vocals. From start to finish, the record is layered with atmospheric beauty and driven home with sharp hooks. I'm looking forward to more coming from this Windy City duo.
